Obituary For Richard Lamar Riley
Richard Lamar Riley was born March 16, 1938, in Albany, Georgia. He was the loving son of the late Johnny B. Byrd and Amelia Riley and shared the same birthday as his twin brother, Raymond Riley.
He was educated in the Broward County Public Schools, graduating from Attucks High School of Hollywood, Florida in 1958. To have known Richard was to know a very caring, warm-hearted, jovial young man who inspired both his peers and teachers alike. He had an infectious personality that pulled people in and never let them go.
Shortly after graduation, he began working at Hollywood Hill Nursing Home. A very conscientious and dedicated individual, Richard was not just a staff member, but a friend and confidant to countless residents and co-workers. In later years after moving back to Albany, he gained employment with Sansui Beverage Company as a route delivery driver, a role he carried out with pride and care. His warm smile and friendly demeanor turned his daily routes into opportunities to build lasting friendships. He retired having rendered innumerable years of loyal service.
Richard was always at the center of his family and looked forward to gatherings that brought them together in love and harmony. He was a devoted father who was full of love, compassion, strength, and humor. Known by many as a very generous man, Richard was always willing to go the extra mile to help anyone in need. No one was ever looked upon as a stranger; rather, he saw all people as important and worthy of friendship and compassion.
On January 12, 2026, Richard transitioned from this earthly life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Raymond Riley and bother Oree Glover; and also three very special friends, Ada Clay, Robert Clay, Sr., and Bernice Glover.
Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of his children, Veronica (Jimmie), Eva, Patricia, Richard, Evangela (Stevie), and Steven all of Albany, GA; his grandchildren, Kevan, Victoria, Zenovia, Jammie, Patrick, Travis, Carl, Richard III, Perci, Monyé, Keyo, Felia, and King all of Albany, GA; sisters, Loretta Harris of Hollywood, FL and Jackie Riley of Albany, GA; special nieces and nephew, Christine, Bridget, Shajuana, Sanita, Yashicay, Ashley, Jerstacia, Donnie, and William; dedicated caregivers, Eva and Earl Davis; in-laws, Mable Williams, Curtis Clay, Robert Clay, and Byron; and a host of great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, cousins, extend family, and friends.
