Obituary For Helen Johnson Redding

Helen Johnson-Redding was born in Blakely, Georgia on June 9, 1948, to the late Charlie and China Johnson. She spent her entire educational years in the Early County School System, where she was characterized as a deeply inquisitive student with an insatiable appetite for learning. Helen’s involvement in school functions and various student-centered activities enabled her to enjoy a diverse and well-
rounded educational experience.

A deeply rooted believer in Christ Jesus, Helen served the Lord with gladness and trusted Him in all things. Her faith was strong and she lived a life of generosity, humility, and sacrifice.

A pillar of resilience and fortitude, Helen was known for her unyielding work ethic. For innumerable years, she worked as a school crossing guard
protecting children, supporting police officers, and embodying the very best of community service. Every day, rain or shine, Helen would be at her post with a cheery greeting while stopping traffic to ensure the safety of countless children in her charge. She loved her job and was faithful to her duty and the people she served.

Known to many as a caring and giving woman with a sweet spirit, Helen radiated light wherever she trod and greeted everyone with a perpetual smile. She was a devoted mother, a loyal sister, a beloved aunt, a committed cousin, and an unforgettable friend who was the rock and foundation for so many people. She loved deeply, spoke honestly, and always kept things real. Anyone who knew her also knew that if she called you family or friend, there were no lengths too great for her to help you—her heart knew no bounds. She will long be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family and community.

On February 2, 2026, Helen answered the call to eternal peace and rest. Although absent from the body, we take comfort in knowing that she is
present with the Lord. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Redding; and her siblings, Laster Johnson, Roxie Weaver, Chester Johnson, Louis “Preacher” Johnson, Frances Dean, Margaret Clark, and Johnnie Mae.
Helen is survived by her loving children, Debra (Willie) Mosley, Michelle (Tyrone) Redding, Al (Hope) Redding, and Marvin Redding; her sister, Peggy Johnson; grandchildren, Joi Redding Jylanthia Redding, JaQuandria (Garett) Myers, Michael Edwards, Jr., Kendrick Barlow, Jr., Portia (Brandon) Billings, Alshontis Redding, Tytianna (Mark) Robinson, Alkiria Redding, Tylexus Robinson, and Jaden Redding; 15 great grandchildren; great-great grandson, Drake Johnson; two dedicated caregivers, Ora Jones and Rahtisha Collins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
